Yesterday I got to witness my first ever 20th International Body Painting Contest @ 25th Brussels International Festival Of Fantastic Film. BIFFF is famous for its very immaculate body painting contest they run each year that has a strong gothic/sci-fi/horror edge. Girls are painted and decorated like they are being made up to be in some super expensive swanky movie (and yes everyone being painted for the most part is completely naked… save for some thongs).

The event kicked off in a style is something in the states is more like walking down an aisle of livestock at a rodeo or barn show. The people (mainly girl) being body painted were off to the right in a medium size room of the Tour and Taxis website. A divider seperated them from the crowd as young and old (yes many families with little ones of all ages running around) all walked down the line perplexed at each new work of body painting art being created. I should note they don’t let anyone in until everyone has a fair amount of paint already on their body.
The attention to detail and artistry was quite impressive. Once everyone was made up then the main event took place. The main event being a sudden shift into a body painting hard techno fashion show with each person body painted strolling out and dancing and prancing like creature/monster versions of catwalk models.
