ALAMO MEMORIES by Ant Timpson

I don’t even live in Austin but I have hundreds of fave memories of the joint. I distinctly remember walking up those stairs the first time and just feeling at home. Then again home to me has always been strange and wonderful single screen cinemas.

Top Ten Personal Memories.

#1 Getting Tim rip roaring drunk and wrestling him in front of his frightened staff, then threatening to burn the mangy old black curtains. Well I thought it was funny.

#2 Getting Udo Kier absolutely sozzled on vodka/redbulls before his Q&A eventually carrying him back to the Driscol on my back. Pouring Udo drinks at the bar while a strange and busty chick came up to Udo
and ‘accidentally’ let her boobs fall out onto the bar. Udo didn’t even blink. Marvellous!

#3 Tim graciously let me get Bo Svensen in for the NIGHT WARNING’ event, we decided to show Bo a montage of scenes from his films and ask him to narrate his memories of the films… Bo’s classic reply while watching the clips. “I was in these movies???”

#4 Tim doing one of the greatest opening monologues for the World Premiere of our film THE DEVIL DARED ME TO - and making the entire audience shotgun a lonestar. Unbelievable.

#5 Watching the crowd go gaga and catch the fever when Tim and Harry let me play the Stunt Rock trailer for it’s first ever BNAT screening. It began a revolution that saw the band Sorcery expecting a big comeback from it.

#6 QT doing Billy Jack speech - say no more.

#7 Never getting tired of putting one foot up on the gents toilet door. Godd#mn thing was never fixed in the 7yrs I was there. A beautiful thing.

#8 The Night Warning crowd reaction to the ‘kiss’. Eeeeuwwww. Stunning.

# 9 Crowd turning on Matthew Brights ill conceived ‘TIP TOES’ during a BNAT.

#10 Watching Tim finally able to relax and have a beer and watch a weird wed. When the man could kick back and relax in his own f#*king cinema - it always made me happy.

Oh and watching DYNASTY in 3D while having a fantastic chinese buffet.

Oh and seeing Mel Gibson start to sweat after PASSION OF THE CHRIST played.

Oh and knowing that James Fanaaka finally got some respect.

Oh and doing the mother of all trailerthons that was 3hrs long.

Oh and well you get the idea….

I think thats why the Alamo programming is always so strong. It acted like a magnet for lots of folks with sharp cinematic sensibilities - it was like Xanadu for programmers like kier-la, lars, henry, zack and of course the dirty kiwi film collectors like myself.

So many more, so little time.

Downtown.. you rocked my world so many times..

I’ll miss you like a lonely hooker.

RIP baby RIP.

I forgot about the strange and busty chick at the Udo event. You just stood there and filmed her from about three feet away while her tits were hanging out. I remember her boyfriend pulling her top up and giving you the meanest look I’d ever seen! Rogueish!
