This is the type of iconic image of Franco Nero and Enzo G. Castellari’s, High Crime (La polizia incrimina la legge assolve) that I expect to find just as common in poster shops and cult places around the world and populating the homes of film lovers world wide. How this image is not more common I have no idea but glad to offer it up here in all its glory and restored. I can think of few better images of Franco Nero and this incredibly rare one from a Japanese still of the film might just be the best!

Fans of Poliziottesco/Poliziotteschi cinema should keep a watch for Mike Malloy’s documentary that fully explores it inside and out called Eurocrime! The Italian Cop and Gangster Films that Ruled the ’70s (Facebook Fan Page).

Coming out on March 12 is the Green Zone (Official Site) a re-teaming of filmmaker Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon from their Bourne Supremacy/Bourne Ultimatum films. The cinematographer for the film is Barry Ackroyd who previously shot Oscar contender, The Hurt Locker.

The Girl (Maria Schneider): People disappear every day.
David Locke (Jack Nicholson): Every time they leave the room.

Everything about this Michelangelo Antonioni film speaks to me. Its undercurrent spirituality of man as a journeying stowaway and the intrinsic feeling of being hellbent on traveling the world to feed his heart, happiness, sadness, vision, being and all… just really hit home. This restored still to me hits me just as haunting as the film does. Priceless!

I have been showing glimpses of them in my ongoing 42 Sitges Film Festival preview and now here they are days ago at the 66th Venice Film Festival.

It’s not every horror film that gets to walk the famous Venice Film Festival red carpet but such is the life for the REC franchise and its creators Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza and lead actress Manuela Velasco. This horror sequel from Spain is set to explode the film festival circuit this month and next from Midnight Madness to the 42 Sitges Film Festival (and possibly others…).

There has been a Screen Daily review (here) and a Variety review (here) with an overall buzz very enthusiastic from what I’ve heard. By all accounts it played very well at the 66th Venice Film Festival.
