Xavier Gens has me greatly anticipating Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury’s follow up to Inside called Snow aka Neige (as shown here in an interview I did with him at NIFFF last year). I haven’t heard a whole lot of news of late on this project so please leave a comment or contact me if you have any news.

Note that Timecrimes hits US DVD on March 31st. I’ve seen this movie over 7 times now and it keeps getting better and better and better and… This is an absolute must own on video! It bowed at Fantastic Fest to rave reviews and raptured an entire Austin fan base that has exploded and grown many times over since. Its award list is long but in the category that really matters, cinema timelessness, it remains a champion that will work just as well today as it will be in twenty years time. A lo-fi time travel adventure just as offbeat as it is sincere, it brings out the dreamer in all of us to remind us to never stop dreaming or believing in ourselves and love. Perfectly satisfying for what it is and such a welcome departure from so many contemporary films that are plastic and have nothing at all to say.

As for this great image of Hector in Timecrimes (Los Cronocrimenes), it’s one I hadn’t really seen before and only recently came across.

An absolute must read for fans of this film or Nacho is Steve Dollar’s piece on it from Sitges last year (read here).

I’ve seen Timecrimes 7 or 8 times the world over now so you could call me a bit biased at this point for really liking and admiring the film. While minimal the film provides many interconnecting layers that take multiple viewings to completely unwind. I went into the film only knowing it was billed as a dark comedy mixed with time travel and as such immediately had my full attention. The only real difference from the early cuts of the film are the binocular shots sound layer that was very sharp and loud pulse shaking sonic landscapes seem to have since been muted down some to go for a more eerie feel. I keep forgetting to ask Nacho about this difference. I did finally remember to ask him about his amazing story/theory on time travel in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof. It’ so intricate and detailed that it would be nearly impossible to even begin to describe it other than to say it’s an utterly fascinating take that only Nacho could come up with and instantly makes you want to re-watch Death Proof.

An absolute must read for fans of this film or Nacho is Steve Dollar’s piece on it from Sitges last year (read here).

A fantastically jaded Japanese poster for a fantastically jaded film that gets better with each passing viewing. Up next for Maury and Bustillo seems to be Neiges aka Snow (I have a quick bit from great filmmaker Xavier Gens talking about it here on Twitch). I’m starting to wonder how many more publicity stills there are out there for this film. Every time I think I’ve posted the last one, someone sends me another. I’ll gladly keep posting stills from this film even if it’s just a picture of a grasshopper and an oil derrick. In all seriousness these close up stills (including these last two I posted recently) are so iconic and works of art onto themselves. I can certainly see any of these working framed in an art show featuring still after still from this film.
