For female fans that are starting out their week seeing some inspiration, some greater sense of purpose… or perhaps just a rocking picture of Ryo Kase (or better known to readers here as Takefumi from Funky Forest)!

It’s literally a chess match between Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara) L (Ken’ichi Matsuyama) in this conclusion to the Death Note series.
Now raise your hand if you dressed like either Light or L for Halloween this year. Raise both hands if you dress like either everyday. Raise both hands and one leg if you do all the above and dress like either to bed. Raise both hands and both legs if you dress like either with all the above and when you shower.

Well chances are you have already ready my interview with director Shusuke Kaneko on this film at Twitch (read here), but what you may not know already is I have a huge movie crush on Yu Kashii. I first became aware of her in Linda Linda Linda where she instantly leaped from the screen and most recently saw her in the really bizarre film The Pavillion Salamandre (Pavillion sanshouo). One of my Japanese colleagues who has met her before (who will go nameless) told me, “Blake if you have a thing for gorgeous women with big noses, Yu Kashii is your girl.”

::: WORLD EXCLUSIVE - A Look Behind the Scenes at Stefan’s Sweathshirt Photoshoot at Udine 9 Far East Film Festival Closing Night Party
via Flickr Slideshow
With so many SERIOUS film festival pictures I’ve posted up here I thought it was high time for some silliness! At long last from the hidden vaults of Mount Zomozooma comes this world exclusive look at Stefan’s (www.pageofmadness.com) legendary sweatshirt shoot at the closing night party of Udine 9 Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy. Nothing like good times at a film festival. One of the real blessings of Udine is you can find yourself in groups of people that are all from different countries and having that one universal love of cinema that binds everyone in partying, conversation and enjoying a day on this crazy Earth. Nothing like being out until 7 am at a film festival with strangers, friends and others - lost in cinema discussion or… A SWEATSHIRT PHOTOSHOOT!
* Admittedly this post works far more as an inside joke for everyone involved in said pictures.

Screening at AFFD this Thursday night in Dallas, Texas (more info). I know there are other Dallas events going on this night but believe me for your money and time this is by far the best deal for movie lovers.
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Angelika, Plano
Ticket Price: $8.00
“Dorm” aka “Dek hor” is one of my favorite films this year. Absolutely love it. I woke up after a fairly late night at Udine 9 to drag myself in to the morning screening to see it. I should really note in all honesty I’ve been really burnt out by all the mutations in different countries and markets of what seems to be the same J-horror ghost story. I can watch the first 5 to 10 minutes and already know where the movie is going in these types of deals. “Dorm” thankfully was really an exception. Each of its three acts are carefully constructed as a drama first and not a film revolving around cheap thrills or shocks. It really immerses itself into an enthralling coming of age story with horror elements. The arc of the main characters transformation and how it gets you to emotionally dig into it really sets this apart from the rest. I really can easily see this film being in my top 5 at the end of the year. Consider this a little film that could. A shame there is so little buzz about this film out there but really want to put it on the movie map this year as a must see film! You don’t have to be a horror fan or a j-horror fan or any of that to appreciate this film. “Dorm” hits you right at the core of what makes you a movie lover.
