Todd writes over at Twitch that the Tony Jaa Ong-bak 2 saga might have ended, though it seems there might still be many more strange things left to happen. Hopefully this is all a mute point and filming the last 20% goes without a glitch. Whatever happens, we certainly could use more Tony Jaa kicking ass in cinema versus hiding in jungles.

Fighting Billy Chong as shown here is an easy way to die. The title of this film sounds cool, but… does seem odd the more you think about it. For fans wanting me to post more cool kung fu movie wallpaper, here you go!

New Cinema Wallpaper of the Day

For WWII cinema we have had some amazing films in recent memory in Black Book and The Pianist (and who knows… maybe the upcoming Inglorious Bastards will be great as well). For 2008 we have another film, this time around with a five-woman commando kicking ass unit that must parachute into occupied France and protect the secrets of D-Day landings. This based on a true story and filled to the brim action-war-thriller is definitely on my must see list. If these images and the synopsis below don’t excite you to see this film, then I don’t know what will!
Synopsis:
May 1944, A five-woman commando unit parachutes into occupied France on a daring and dangerous mission to protect the secret of D-Day landings and eliminate Colonel Heindrich, the head of German counter-intelligence.
Louise (Sophie Marceau) is a trained sniper and the widow of a Resistance leader.
Jeanne (Julie Depardieu) is a tough hooker who won’t hesitate to kill.
Gaelle (Deborah Francois) is a young and brilliant explosives expert desperate to see some action.
Suzy (Marie Gillain) is a stunning former showgirl and Heindrich’s one-time lover.
Maria (Maya Sansa) is an Italian contessa undercover with the French Resistance.
Female Agents is an action-packed tribute to the real-life espionage operatives whose exploits inspired the film.

More great images from Ashes of Time Redux. I’ve seen Redux once and the original film twice. My previous screenings of it were so long ago that any huge plot points or noticeable changes don’t stand out. What does stand out is seeing the film look so alive after the video release version I’ve watched that looked like it was bleached in dirt and then transfered onto DVD.

Over on Twitch, Todd now has up the official Sony Pictures Classics brand new trailer for Ashes of Time Redux (watch here). Interesting reading the comments there wondering about this new cut and I can say no one should really go into it looking for a drastically different film. The main joy of this film is getting to experience it in all its vibrancy and poetic symphony properly for the first time.

New Cinema Wallpaper of the Day

Hitting US theaters on October 10th from Sony Pictures Classics is this new incarnation of Ashes of Time, billed as Ashes of Time Redux. However you look at it, seeing this new version will be like seeing the film for the first time. I can only wonder if in its first theatrical run back towards the mid-90’s if the colors leaped off the screen with exploding vibrancy as they doing in this updated print. Many fans have only experienced this film on its numerous crappy video releases and until now have really been robbed a proper chance to view and experience it. This latest version does mark an incredible opportunity to rediscover this film and fully see and swim in the cinematic canvas Wong Kar-wai had painted along with Christopher Doyle and William Chang. Previous versions of this might as well been in black and white by comparison. This is one film to write down as a must see in movie theaters for 2008. This isn’t a film to simply watch on a computer or on a home theater system, this is a movies movie, the kind that can only be truly seen and enjoyed while flickering up on the big screen.
