As iconic as Shaft is with cinema and in particular 70’s cinema, I’m glad at last to post this rare restored still of John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) here. When Quentin Tarantino was last in Austin he mentioned 36 Hours, in particular the performance of Rod Taylor being hugely influential on his crafting of the character Col. Hans Landa (played by Christoph Waltz) in Inglourious Basterds. Indeed this is one of Taylor’s shining hours among many in cinema and a great not seen enough WWII thriller. Netflix or check this one out on DVD soon!

I love this film from Sam Peckinpah and its amazing to come across an original behind the scenes still such as this one to be able to restore and share!

Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw co-star in “THE GETAWAY,” a First Artists Production released by National General Pictures. Sam Peckinpah directed “THE GETAWAY” which co-stars Ben Johnson, Sally Struthers and Al Lettieri. A Solar-Foster-Brower Production, the picture was written for the screen by Walter Hill from the novel by Jim Thompson.
