Remakes always seem a dicey prospect, especially in regards to taking on an Akira Kurosawa classic. This one though seems interesting and I know Marc Walkow (Outcast Cinema) who caught it at Sitges this year thought it was surprisingly good.

In 1958
Akira Kurosawa created the movie, the original “Hidden Fortress,” purely from his imagination. Its story-telling and dynamic velocity earned the film high acclaim as “the masterpiece of the entertainment movie.” From then on, the film has continued to inspire and give influences to a large number of great filmmakers.

In 1978
George Lucas, who had been inspired by the original “Hidden Fortress,” created the masterpiece of the century, “Star Wars” which gave significant influences to the creators all over the world.

In 2008, “Hidden Fortress: Last Princess” is to open…
30 years from the first theatrical release of “Star Wars,” and 50 years from the first theatrical release of the original “Hidden Fortress.” Now gathered together the creators that the Japanese boast and are proud of to the rest of the world, to make a new rebirth to the entertainment movie milestone of the 21st century.
