Let the Right One In - Now Out in Select Theaters

Posted by Blake on Friday, November 14 2008 at 5:30 pm

I originally saw Let the Right One In (official US site) in NIFFF in Switzerland and instantly it became one of the best films I’ve seen in years. That a vampire film could feel so fresh and classical was an absolute and very welcome shock. We had it at Fantastic Fest this year where it further wow-wed audiences.

Once you have seen the film I highly recommend checking out this interview I did with its director Tomas Alfredson on it back in July at Twitch.

Let the Right One In (event listing) is screening at Fantastic Fest this year and is an absolute must see!

Let the Right One In (Matt’s Review) is one of the most refreshing horror films I’ve seen in ages. Just when you think horror cinema has gotten stale or any tale revolving around vampires routine, along comes this magical film that will blow you away. It’s been a film festival charmer this year racking up awards at a dizzying pace, not to mention taking top honors at Tribeca. I’ll never forget the looks of amazement on Tim League’s (Alamo Drafthouse, Fantastic Fest) and Todd Brown’s (Twitch) face as they walked out of seeing it at the Berlin Film Festival’s European Market earlier this year.

Seeing Let the Right One In at NIFFF was one of the highlights of 2008 so far for me. Along with that it was a great experience interviewing its director Tomas Alfredson (read interview here).

New Cinema Wallpaper of the Day
Sunday, August 3, 2008

For WWII cinema we have had some amazing films in recent memory in Black Book and The Pianist (and who knows… maybe the upcoming Inglorious Bastards will be great as well). For 2008 we have another film, this time around with a five-woman commando kicking ass unit that must parachute into occupied France and protect the secrets of D-Day landings. This based on a true story and filled to the brim action-war-thriller is definitely on my must see list. If these images and the synopsis below don’t excite you to see this film, then I don’t know what will!

Synopsis:

May 1944, A five-woman commando unit parachutes into occupied France on a daring and dangerous mission to protect the secret of D-Day landings and eliminate Colonel Heindrich, the head of German counter-intelligence.

Louise (Sophie Marceau) is a trained sniper and the widow of a Resistance leader.
Jeanne (Julie Depardieu) is a tough hooker who won’t hesitate to kill.
Gaelle (Deborah Francois) is a young and brilliant explosives expert desperate to see some action.
Suzy (Marie Gillain) is a stunning former showgirl and Heindrich’s one-time lover.
Maria (Maya Sansa) is an Italian contessa undercover with the French Resistance.

Female Agents is an action-packed tribute to the real-life espionage operatives whose exploits inspired the film.
