Coming out on March 12 is the Green Zone (Official Site) a re-teaming of filmmaker Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon from their Bourne Supremacy/Bourne Ultimatum films. The cinematographer for the film is Barry Ackroyd who previously shot Oscar contender, The Hurt Locker.

Dshanya requested more from this film off the Cinema is Dope Facebook Fan Page and here an addition is (with more on the way this month)!

If you are a film festival programmers or looking to program this film for any type of event, I highly recommend the new digital restoration of it that I saw at Cannes in 2009. Further notes on it below.

Restoration Notes:

The restoration of Giu la testa is based on the original camera negative and on the magnetic soundtracks provided by the Sergio Leone Estate. This copy corresponds with the complete version of Sergio Leone’s approved edit from 1971. The Techniscope camera negative was scanned at 2k resolution and digitally restored; color correction was made using a positive print from 1971 as a reference.

The English soundtrack was restored from the original magnetic materials used for the monophonic mixing. The film was restored by Cineteca di Bologna at L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory in 2009, under the auspices of the Sergio Leone Estate.

When Quentin Tarantino was last in Austin he mentioned 36 Hours, in particular the performance of Rod Taylor being hugely influential on his crafting of the character Col. Hans Landa (played by Christoph Waltz) in Inglourious Basterds. Indeed this is one of Taylor’s shining hours among many in cinema and a great not seen enough WWII thriller. Netflix or check this one out on DVD soon!

James Garner learns from Rod Taylor that he is a victim of amnesia as a result of a brutal beating. But is he? A question that can only be answered in “36 Hours“.

This is an incredibly rare behind the scenes still featuring Humphrey Bogart on the set of (interestingly the caption of this still lists the working title as Somewhere in Sahara). Preserving original stills like this is the heartbeat that makes this site tick and I hope you dear readers enjoy! And I was very glad Harry screened this film at BNAT last year as it was an absolute delight and thrill to see on the big screen!

I’ll have a more restored version of this posted at a later date. I have done some restoration work but not nearly as much as normal so that I can expedite getting this amazing stills posted out for fans of the film to see.
