Jackie Chan went for it in key scenes in this movie. One where he took nearly 3,000 takes to get a single kick in a game right. Another with the classic end fight and then yet again with the insane rugby meets pyramid stacking where it looks like everyone was breaking arms and limbs to pull off something amazing and that we hadn’t seen in a kung fu film before.

Hard to believe it wasn’t so long ago that Fox Searchlight Pictures was fighting to give Slumdog Millionaire a proper US theatrical release instead of being dumped straight to DVD. I think surely tonight alone proves they were right and absolutely fantastic to see Danny Boyle firmly in the spot light with such a great film, crew, A.R. Rahman and cast. Can’t wait to see what is next from all involved. It may not be an Oscar sweep tonight but it will sure be a landslide of wins and deservingly so!

In Austin Slumdog Millionaire is currently playing at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.

About Japanese Poster Artwork Celebration Month:
To kick off 2009, I can think of no better way of doing so than celebrating Japanese poster artwork. The emphasis will be more of western films through the lens of Japanese poster artwork and of course some of my own personal all-time favorites. At a future date I’ll probably have a month devoted to solely Japanese films and their poster artwork. The interplay and battle of wits between Dev Patel and Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire makes for one of most entertaining storylines in a movie for 2008. As the movie runs you aren’t quite sure who will necessarily top who in their game of high stakes chess to out maneuver the other.
