This is the type of iconic image of Franco Nero and Enzo G. Castellari’s, High Crime (La polizia incrimina la legge assolve) that I expect to find just as common in poster shops and cult places around the world and populating the homes of film lovers world wide. How this image is not more common I have no idea but glad to offer it up here in all its glory and restored. I can think of few better images of Franco Nero and this incredibly rare one from a Japanese still of the film might just be the best!

Fans of Poliziottesco/Poliziotteschi cinema should keep a watch for Mike Malloy’s documentary that fully explores it inside and out called Eurocrime! The Italian Cop and Gangster Films that Ruled the ’70s (Facebook Fan Page).

I ended the last decade with a rare restored still from The Wild Bunch (here) and am kicking off this new decade with this perfect one to walk us into it. What new great cinema awaits? I have no idea but I’m greatly excited! To a new decade of cinema, I raise a toast and say bring it on… while also hoping for more original great works! To all the fans of the site, I hope I give you something that you enjoy as I continue to explore cinema here.

With Avatar (official site) finally out in movie theaters, I thought it was only appropriate to post this great image from this previous James Cameron film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Hard to believe in a year or so it will be the 20th anniversary for this film! I haven’t seen Avatar yet but greatly looking forward to getting out to see it in digital 4K at the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin, Texas.

I know longer see Xavier Gens named attached in any capacity for producing this French zombie horror meets Die Hard, but he originally was the person that got me all excited about this film last year. This co-directed effort byYannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher is one of the top films I cannot wait to see at the 42nd Sitges Film Festival. The imagery and all the promo reels I’ve seen (most recently the updated one at Cannes) have been thrilling. The word from FrightFest was lukewarm with many citing it as a very intense film that had some jaw dropping moments and to others it felt way too loud.

Synopsis:
On the outskirts of Paris, four corrupt cops go on a rampage to avenge the murder of one of their own by a group of ruthless gangsters, holed up in a condemned building. Once there, the officers’ personal vendetta turns into a nightmare. Trapped, they are about to be executed when the unimaginable occurs: hordes of bloodthirsty, cannibalistic creatures invade the building, savagely attacking everyone. Running to the roof, the survivors discover that their entire world is in chaos. The streets are filled with massive heaps of countless cadavers and the entire city is in flames. Alone and wounded, despite their mutual hatred, the gangsters and cops have no choice but join forces if they want to survive. They’ll have to make it down thirteen floors full of voracious creatures but the greatest threat lies elsewhere…
