Murakami (Toshiro Mifune) and Sato (Takashi Shimura) in pursuit of Murakami’s stolen gun in postwar Japan. “Nora inu” aka “Stray Dog” is one of my favorite Akira Kurosawa films, a great crime fable that is brimming with life in every inch of its frame throughout.

I have no idea if Sherman Torgan was a fan of this movie or not, but I’ve been saving posting this image for a special occasion, and now in honor of Sherman Torgan (who sadly passed away unexpectedly) I present it. “Out of the Past” is one of my favorite film noir films. It has a timeless and life affirming luster about it. Its vibrant pulse keeps viewers coming for further viewings, while never growing dull and somehow seeming to grow more and more distinct and intimate.
