Japanese Poster Appreciation Month – January 2009
Oyasuminasai! And with this, the month long Japanese Poster Celebration is a wrap! Seems fitting as this one was the original inspiration for it. I love this poster! I had planned originally for 3 others to be put up today but they are somewhere lost in the mail system. Looking back at the start of January to now, 2009 has flown by. I’m not sure if I was able to make any ripple or better raise the appreciation and interest in Japanese poster artwork, but I hope in some way many good things have come of this, especially more love for Japanese posters and the artists behind them. Viva Japanese posters! Thanks for tuning in.
SPECIAL THANKS & RECOGNITION!!!!!
I would like to thank everyone who supported this celebration through commenting, emailing others or tweeting about it. Special thanks and recognition go to: Mike Malloy, John Goss, Chris MaGee of Toronto J-Film Pow-Wow (link), Don Brown of Ryuganji (link) and Elmore Leonard (link).
Tomorrow kicks off Lee Marvin Month and the announcement of the theme for CID in March and more…

About Japanese Poster Artwork Celebration Month:
To kick off 2009, I can think of no better way of doing so than celebrating Japanese poster artwork. The emphasis will be more of western films through the lens of Japanese poster artwork and of course some of my own personal all-time favorites. At a future date I’ll probably have a month devoted to solely Japanese films and their poster artwork. So be sure to tune in each day during the month of January as I have an incredible amount of incredible Japanese posters that will be on display. Hopefully at the end of this I can convert many of you into life long fans of Japanese posters!
Please help and spread the word on the January 2009 themed Japanese Poster Celebration Month here at Cinema is Dope. Tweet your friends. Mention it in your Facebook status or Friendfeed. Link to it on your blog. Any support is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Japanese Poster Appreciation Month – January 2009
The question to ask is this… 30 years from now will this film play at Terror Tuesday with Zack Carslon singing its praises? Word on how this movie turns out will start hitting the streets of Austin on Monday night after it screens for the press.
Last Day of the Japanese Poster Appreciation Month and be sure to check back in throughout the day as I will be posting one last flurry of posters!

Japanese Poster Appreciation Month – January 2009
New Cinema Wallpaper of the Day
Saturday, January 31, 2008
Last Day of the Japanese Poster Appreciation Month and be sure to check back in throughout the day as I will be posting one last flurry of posters!
This is essentially a slight reworking of other poster artwork out there for Twilight. The extra twinkles and sparks thrown in certainly make the others look rather dull by comparison.

Note to Fellow Bloggers
Now for all you fellow bloggers and fans of this movie who are looking to promote this film, I have set aside a special poster only version of this for you that is saved as a PNG file (download here). If you use this I do ask that you link back to my post here. Additionally if anyone needs this poster at a different size for promotion on their site please let me know. Usually when I do this I don’t get much credit back so if this goes well I’ll definitely consider doing this again in the future.

Japanese Poster Appreciation Month – January 2009
Last Day of the Japanese Poster Appreciation Month and be sure to check back in throughout the day as I will be posting one last flurry of posters!
Sometimes you save the best for last! I really have loved all the wonderfully produced Studio Ghibli artwork I’ve seen for Grave of the Fireflies (wiki) aka Hotaru no haka including this one. No clue why I’ve yet to see it and it is currently ranked number 202 on IMDB’s user voted top 250, impressive! Also check out this poster from another Isao Takahata anime, Omohide poro poro (1991).

Japanese Poster Appreciation Month – January 2009
Vintage Movie Wallpaper of the Day
Friday, January 30, 2009
Japanese Poster Celebration Month ends tomorrow on Saturday with a flurry of posters.
A mere handful of days away from Lee Marvin Month! kicking off!
Seems interesting the way the appreciation for Prime Cut has grown over the years. Generally panned when it came out it now seems spoken in high regard. Does it perfectly work and everything flawlessly come together in it? Well no, but what does work and how its different pieces and performances ebb and flow in it all create one hell of a unique brew of unforgettable action and crime cinema.
