I’m surprised at the popularity of this film here at Cinema is Dope. Previous wallpaper I’ve posted from this film has been in the top 10 for months now (view here) with no signs of letting up. I’m glad now to post this great artwork from its Japanese poster for the surging cult status this film seems to be rolling up.

Funny and creative poster artwork for Flying Rabbits. I really like the spin and mesh between stewardess and basketball exhibited here.

Dominic Greene as evil Bond villain as played outstandingly by Mathieu Amalric certainly felt like a very Roman Polanski influenced character. I couldn’t help but watch the film throughout its run time and feel like they were totally riffing off a, “What if Roman Polanski was an evil Bond villain?” His evil sidekick Elvis played by Anatole Taubman that sports an absolutely ridiculously mod haircut and gets the films funniest prop laughs was a really interesting choice.
The main weakness of the newest Bond film (I did dig the film as a whole) was that it felt like a much much longer film that had been condensed and edited down greatly. While I could certainly see the editing style in parts an attempt at style, to me it seemed rather like it was a technique employed to cut down the run time and rush a locked down print out. As such I certainly hope someday to see the full uncut version of this film minus the many awkward moments of editing where everything is sped up and the sound muffled. If this was an attempted style it still seems like an 11th hour change that never comes together, so perhaps there will be a new cut where they have more time to get it right.
As for the gadgets of the film I think they are building still the pre-Bond story of how he became Bond, so we quite haven’t gotten to the point where he is teamed up with cool gadgets. I expect this to come into play in the next outing.

The eye opera set piece of this latest Bond entry is outstanding save for one part. My favorite moment of QUANTUM OF SOLACE comes when Bond and Dominic finally come face to face for the first time during this set piece. Simply perfect. Such a great mini-climax within the movie and I like it when filmmakers make it highly important when heroes and villains finally come across each other face to face and then give it dramatic heights and scintillating adrenaline.
Though the one blemish to me comes immediately after this moment when they crank up the cuts with sped up editing and a really muffled sound design. It almost felt like someone had hit fast forward during this moment up in the projection booth.

Although this is a small role for Jeffrey Wright, I really think he is one hell of a great actor and makes Felix his own. His part in the latest film feels even more blink and you will miss it, but what is there is certainly great work.
