A huge thank you to everyone who showed up to the Grindhouse last night to show their respect to Sherman and help keep his theater alive. We had a huge crowd and I’m sure Sherman was thrilled to see such an enthusiastic audience enjoying the theater he worked so hard to build and keep open over the years.

My LA friends have always told me The New Beverly Cinema is the closest thing they have to the Alamo Drafthouse. It’s the oldest revival movie theater in LA and going strong. One of the few movie theatres out there that get it right with providing great movies and great movie going experiences! Sadly today I’ve gotten word that the owner of it, Sherman Torgan, has passed away (some of you may have noticed he got a thanks in the Grindhouse credits). Condolences to everyone that knew Sherman and were touched over the decades with his charge and dedication in providing films old and new a place to still breath and to be discovered all over again.

Sadly, Sherman, owner of The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles passed away today. There have been no arrangements made for his burial, however, we thought we would spread the word and hope his contributions and love of cinema will live on.
