New Cinema Wallpaper of the Day

A whole slew of new imagery from Watchmen came out yesterday and over the course of the next several days I will do my best and getting most of it it up. Now many sites seem to be posting these at much smaller sizes which really don’t do it just so I will be posting this at the extra larger 1500 pixel width size so that fans can really see the full scope of details.

I wrote late yesterday on my brief thoughts on the first 22 minutes of this film and now with well over 48 hours to process fully what I saw I think it’s safe to say this film will more than likely blow away every graphic novel/comic book adaptation before it, much like what the the first Matrix did with the action/sci-fi cinema, which makes it appropriate that both had March release dates. The latest Dark Knight I enjoyed but at some point I wish it didn’t take itself so over the top serious and especially in trying to overcook all of its emotional tides. While certainly taking action/sci-fi to a whole new crossover potential and amazing production scale, ultimately I think Watchmen is where this particular kind of cinema will be climaxing with the mixed use of realism and digital. Beyond this the next level will be a mixture of this and 3D, which James Cameron is already hard at work readying to destroy and offer up new undreamed of heights. Zack Snyder is actually going to be spending most of his Christmas and Christmas Eve working on finalizing the mixing of this film! He is absolutely hell bent on getting everything right and doing whatever it takes to make it happen. Makes me want to send him an XMAS card for all this effort through his publicist Bebe. The big question right now seems to be on the film arriving at a definitive ending, to which everyone seems to be in the dark at the moment other than it seems a likely scenario is they have yet to unveil it and are hoping to keep it under wraps until they have it ready and very doubtful there will be any huge glaring deviations away from the source material its based on.

Have you heard yet about the trailer for the Watchmen? Apparently it’s out and there isn’t a man, woman, child, shark or monkey living on Earth that hasn’t seen it. There probably isn’t a more anticipated and buzzed about film coming out in 2009 than this one. Everything so far has looked great for it, but it will be how it all comes together into one cohesive narrative that will ultimately sink or swim it. It will be interesting to see where Zack Snyder translates the testosterone of 300 into superhero adrenaline rush for the Watchmen.

SYNOPSIS

Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi.

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion–a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers–Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen?
