One of the films I’m still eager to hit my doorstep is Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Tokyo Sonata. It features from what I can gather another great performance by Teruyuki Kagawa. I really need to at some point take a Teruyuki Kagawa break and catch up on all his past work. This film is currently screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (film listing) and is a not to be missed title!

So with Tokyo Sonata, we seem to have in some ways a new course for Kiyoshi Kurosawa. His filmmaking voice and grammar seems to still be very distinct, yet it appears he his showing his chops at being able to extend that out to other types of films.

Teruyuki Kagawa of note seems to get a chance to shine and put himself on the map and judging from all the melancholy images I’ve seen of him, he certainly seems quite immersed in his role.
