I saw The Road twice at the 42 Sitges Film Festival and liked it better with each viewing. I still don’t know how close the current cut most matches the directors preferred cut of John Hillcoat (The Proposition) but suffice it to say that this theatrical cut isn’t it, yet still delivers. It will be interesting to see how Cormac McCarthy fans (No Country for Old Men) respond to this film version of their novel. I should note some of the images contained show scenes not in the theatrical cut of the film and Charlize Theron is barely in it.

This 22 photograph series of Viggo Mortensenare pictures I took of him overlooking the Mediterranean Sea (and town of Sitges in select pictures) while at the 42 Sitges Film Festival. Viggo Mortensen who was in tow for the closing night film of the 42 Sitges Film Festival, in his latest film, The Road, also got the festivals Gran Premi Honorífic. Note that Viggo speaks near perfect Catalan from his previous experience of working in Barcelona in the 90’s.

The Road (www.theroad-movie.com) opens in US theaters on November 25th and is also the latest film from director John Hillcoat based on the Cormac McCarthy Post Apocalyptic novel. I wound up seeing this film twice while at Sitges this year and will be posting a review of it soon.

I’ve always been a fan for the poster of A History of Violence. Very ominous and slightly strange that seems to be hinting at a stormy tale of violence and mystery.

John Hillcoat who wowed international audiences with his Australian Spaghetti Western, The Proposition, returns with his film adaption of Cormac McCarthy’s stellar Post-Apocalyptic tale, The Road. Being a fan of Post-Apocalyptic cinema, I can’t wait to see this one, especially considering how great The Proposition was!

SYNOPSIS

Based on Cormac McCarthy’s beloved, best-selling and Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Academy Award nominee Viggo Mortensen leads an all-star cast in the big screen adaptation of The Road, the epic post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father (Viggo Mortensen) and his young son (newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee) across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth.

More immaculate behind the scenes photography from Eastern Promises that really show off the spirit that was on its set during filming. Of special note check out the scowl on Vincent Cassel’s face (just off camera and in the bottom left of the frame) as Viggo Mortensen and Armin Mueller-Stahl engage in a heated discussion. This might have been the best overall ensemble cast of actors put into one film for 2007 cinema.
