Vintage Movie Wallpaper of the Day
Thursday, September 11, 2008

Come out tomorrow (Friday) to the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, Texas, to see the original 1979 Mad Max blasted outdoors as part of early Fantastic Fest 2008 events celebrating the upcoming Magnet documentary Not Quite Hollywood (which recently screened at TIFF ‘08 Midnight Madness)! Not Not Quite Hollywood is a wildly entertaining and loving look at Ozploitation cinema. I imagine many people will be like me when watching it and madly writing down titles of films that look great that they never knew about before.

David Graham (Michael Redgrave): In common with quite a lot of other writers, I’ve been about to write for a very long time.

Synecdoche, New York (2008) - Movie Wallpaper

Philip Seymour Hoffman + Charlie Kaufman seems like a perfect pairing of talent and bouncing creative energy. That this is the debut film of Mr. Kaufman certainly adds to the intrigue of Synecdoche, New York. Typically Mr. Kaufman leaves his work up to the director and their vision and in this case he is the director so we can be sure his creative touches will be even more vivid and even more so in full force with it.

In the first image at the top we have Yoshiyoshi Arakawa.

2nd image features (left to right): Yoshinori Okada, Yoshino Kimura and Yoshiyoshi Arakawa.

Third image features Seminosuke Murasugi (right), who looks to be some kind of reporter.

Having won top honors at Nippon Connection this year and a strong showing at Udine 10, I can only hope this film will continue to gain film festival ground and win over new fans. Although I haven’t seen it yet, the trailer on its site (here) immediately won me over.
