Before Warren Schmidt, Col. Nathan R. Jessep, The Joker, Garrett Breedlove, Jack Torrance, David Locke, R.P. McMurphy, J.J. Gittes, “Bad Ass” Buddusky, Robert Eroica Dupea and George Hanson there was Stoney. The character of Stoney while not perhaps mentioned as often as those others for Jack Nicholson easily ranks up there with the good stuff in his career even if it isn’t Jack Torrance good. Regardless if your a Nicholson buff who needs to see this movie right away this is required viewing for any fan of great cinema. The opening sequence alone from maestro filmmaker Richard Rush is one of my all-time favorites. The one and only time I met Mr. Rush the first thing I immediately talked about was the fantastic intro he had crafted here. It’s so damn good!

Need further proof that this is required viewing? Then be sure to head out to Weird Wednesday next July 8th for one of can’t miss screenings of 2009 (details here).

In this image on the far left we have Dean Stockwell as Dave (his head is turned so you can’t really see him all that well), Susan Strasberg (who is incredible as Jenny) and Jack Nicholson.
