Vintage Movie Wallpaper of the Day

I recently saw this on the big screen at the Paramount Summer Film Series (official site) and experiencing the magic of Busby Berkeley in this outing cemented him for me as a true visionary and artist of musicals in cinema. The musical numbers of Berkeley live in a fantasy land void of CGI and breath with complex choreography and surreal stylization that brings out smiles and admiration. By breaking down walls and not trying to conform to the established confines of what a musical should be his numbers remain just as impressive today as they surely did then. I haven’t seen all the films he has been a part of but I’m certainly interested now to seek the rest out after seeing Footlight Parade and now Dames on the big screen! I do also need to rewatch Gremlins 2 again to see how close of a spoof there is of Dames in it.
