Michael Rasmussen – Out of Tour de France

::: Tour de France – Rasmussen out of Tour as Rabobank wield axe

As an avid cyclist and regular follower of the Tour de France, I must say I was a bit shocked to learn that Ras aka Michael Rasmussen was sacked from Tour today by his own team. I was initially feeling a bit sad about the whole deal until it later broke that it came about when the team found out he never was in Mexico in June as he had stated, but in Italy. Missing tests is one thing, but to somehow make statements saying you were in Mexico while you were in Italy is just insane. What a real travesty! Ras had put in one of the most amazing Tour rides I’ve ever seen today and clearly was on the way to winning the entire race.

The Tour now comes down to a time trial duel between Spaniard Alberto Contador and Australian Cadel Evans. With 1 minute and 53 seconds separating the two I just don’t think Evans can do it, perhaps if it was closer to a minute. Evans does have experience on his side, while for Contador this is his first Tour and now all the pressure will be on him. Evans is certainly a safer bet, but I’m saying now for the record that Spain will have a reason to celebrate very soon! Not only that in the following years ahead Mr. Pedal to the Metal Contador will be giving you many more reasons to celebrate.
