Ah Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival… that Summer of 2008 spent walking by cars blasting MGMT songs with those in them belting along just as loud. Sidewalk cafes overlooking the Swiss Alps and some crazy thunderstorms over its lake. So many great people, so many great memories and so many great films and great shorts. A movie lovers paradise you are! I can’t wait for March to get here and to start a month long profile on you.
This video represents a preview of a month long tribute to this festival I will be doing in March of 2009. I plan to cover many aspects of the film festival itself and of the town. I definitely want to do whatever I can to get the word out on NIFFF. The video works as a good overview of my experience and more love letter in form than a proper teaser type of deal.
About Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) Month:
It was the summer of 2008 and I found myself for the first time in Neuchatel, Switzerland, to take part in one of the worlds most blissful film festivals. What adjectives you say and yes they many and all do apply sincerely. To a certain degree you could call this a small genre fest and you in a way would be right but still so damn wrong at the same time. There is something so intoxicating and refreshing going on here each year at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) that regardless of size it feels infinitely grand and magical. Every screening is filled with energetic but respectful audiences and with its newly added outdoor screenings where you can gush over Wong Kar Wai’s Ashes of Time Redux set against the backdrop of the Swiss Alps, there are few things in life that can compare, let alone film going experiences. Many people put Venice, TIFFF, Cannes and more on their dial as must fests to attend and I’m sure those are great and all, but seriously you have not lived until you have stepped foot here. Recommended for film lovers of all kinds, treat yourself right someday. Please follow along in March of 2009 as I profile this film festival.
