Over at Sitges this year, Abel Ferrara received their highly prestigious Time Machine Award and had his new feature (in this case a documentary) CHELSEA ON THE ROCKS screen. Still seems odd at how criminally under seen and under appreciated King of New York has been after all these years… I absolutely love this film!
Caption:
Academy Award winner Christopher Walken (”The Deer Hunter“) stars as coolly charismatic crime leader Frank White, who devises a unique plan to become the most powerful man in New York, in the highly original crime thriller KING OF NEW YORK.

Filmmaker Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) fresh from the dazzling Perfume is back in with the globe trotting thriller The International. There really hasn’t been a Tykwer film I haven’t liked. Heaven seems to be his most challenging film to date, yet its construction and lensing still help it to rise from its almost too meticulously crafted nuisances of beauty yearning.

Unleashing onto CID for the first time is this electrified and boogaloofied break dancing cinema cult goodness known only as: Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. Ten points if you still have any moves you can do from this film.
Caption:
Kelly (Lucinda Dickey), Ozone (Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones) and Turbo (Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers) dare the Electro-Rockers to prove that they have great break-dance moves, in Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, a Tri-Star release.

Remakes always seem a dicey prospect, especially in regards to taking on an Akira Kurosawa classic. This one though seems interesting and I know Marc Walkow (Outcast Cinema) who caught it at Sitges this year thought it was surprisingly good.

Press Notes
Introduction
The talents across the world once appreciated and admired, the very origin of entertainment comes back as a newly reborn motion picture.
Setting out from the origin, attaining a new goal…
In 1958
Akira Kurosawa created the movie, the original “Hidden Fortress,” purely from his imagination. Its story-telling and dynamic velocity earned the film high acclaim as “the masterpiece of the entertainment movie.” From then on, the film has continued to inspire and give influences to a large number of great filmmakers.
In 1978
George Lucas, who had been inspired by the original “Hidden Fortress,” created the masterpiece of the century, “Star Wars” which gave significant influences to the creators all over the world.
In 2008, “Hidden Fortress: Last Princess” is to open…
30 years from the first theatrical release of “Star Wars,” and 50 years from the first theatrical release of the original “Hidden Fortress.” Now gathered together the creators that the Japanese boast and are proud of to the rest of the world, to make a new rebirth to the entertainment movie milestone of the 21st century.
“Hidden Fortress”
The world-acclaimed entertainment magnum opus
The timeless masterpiece that has continued to inspire Hollywood filmmakers in many ways, now comes back as a newly reborn motion picture by one of the most esteemed Japanese directors, Shinji Higuchi.
Having their every retreat cut off, no matter how fierce the situation gets,
those nameless young blades never say never.
Their spirit and style is way too extreme and way too brave.
In 2008, you will see a new answer to the entertainment on the big screen!
