About This Series: (VIEW ALL)
One of the goals of this site is preserving film history one image at a time. In addition to that preserving various other forms of film history. Debuting Friday, August 31, 2007 was a historical look at the Boston leg of Rock Hudson’s publicity tour for “Pretty Maids All In A Row.” Items in this series will feature all kinds of images, letters and other extremely rare goodies. This really will be a fascinating look at both publicity for this film and press at the time of 1971. I’m extremely proud to be archiving for public viewing these rare historical film items! Several items a day will be posted for this series in the weeks ahead.

I really do hope everyone enjoys this series and I do ask to please credit my site if you mention this. In addition please do not take any of these items I will be posting and rework them to be sold on eBay.

Full Text of Letter:

INTER-OFFICE COMMUNICATION

TO: ALL ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION MANAGERS

SUBJECT: “PRETTY MAIDS ALL IN A ROW”

FROM: DAVID McGRATH

DATE: FEB. 24, 1971

I have attached a list of cities that Rock Hudson, Barbara Leigh, and the “Pretty Maids” will tour in conjunction with “Pretty Maids All In A Row.” In addition to these THIRTY cities, Angie Dickinson, Gene Roddenberry, and Roger Vadim are scheduled to go to Atlanta, Georgia for the World Premiere on Wednesday, March 24.

The following are guidelines to setting up various tours:

ROCK HUDSON

Hotel: Two bedroom suite for him and Glen Shahan (unit publicist on “Pretty Maids”)
Plaza Hotel, New York
Ambassador, Chicago
No preference in other cities

Transportation: Limousine

Liquor: Tanqueray Gin, J. & B. Scotch, Old Grand-dad Bourbon

Press: Prefers Press Luncheons. However, will do individual interviews with key papers, columnists and College Press Seminars.

Radio: Interviews in Suite, except for network.

TV: Prefers one TV show per city; however, will do three-four minute newsclip at airport or hotel upon arrival, etc.

Promotion: Set contest with top 40 stations for “Pretty Maids” to send in name and photo. Winner has lunch with Rock at Press conference; photos, receives outfit as worn by “Pretty Maids” in April issue of MADEMOISELLE from House of Nine Stores plus screening of picture for her and runners-up.
