Fantastic Fest 2008 Kicks off with US Premiere of Kevin Smith’s ‘Zack and Miri’

on

Speculation has run rampant on what the opening film for Fantastic Fest would be this. There have been 20 speculated titles at least that I’ve heard among fans. I’ve heard the Watchmen rumors and Harry Potter rumors, neither of which were correct. Kevin Smith’s film was one that fans seems to think had the chance and to those fans, yes you are correct as we will have the US premiere of it with Kevin Smith in tow for the always entertaining Q&A (Toronto International Film Festival gets its North American Premiere). An event better kept secret was that it opens for us at the Paramount Movie Theater (wiki). Not only does this landmark 93 year old movie theater, which serves as an Austin landmark provide a classic venue, it also allows us a theater that can hold well over 1,000 people. It should definitely be a great night and I should note there will also be other films screening at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar on opening night. So whether you choose Zack and Miri Make a Porno or a film at South Lamar, we are pulling out all the stops to make it the best opening night we have ever had! Those sticking around for the opening night after party at the Paramount will find themselves witnessing the Air Sex World Championships.

Where: Austin, TX

Fantastic Fest, September 18-25, 2008

Fantastic Fest is proud to announce its 2008 Opening Night Gala Film, the U.S. Premiere of Kevin Smith’s ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO, screening at the historic Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas on September 18th.

Director Kevin Smith will be live in person to introduce the screening and answer questions after the film.

Following the event, attendees are invited to stay and enjoy the official after-party festivities: the Air Sex World Championships on the grand stage of the Paramount Theater. Think “air guitar” with a bit more sizzle.

About the film:
Lifelong platonic friends Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) look to solve their respective cashflow problems by making an adult film together. As the cameras roll, however, the duo begin to sense that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.
