It was my understanding in talking previously with Shinya Tsukamoto at Nippon Connection (interview) that it was the producers on this sequel that wanted him to take on a more commercial path with it. I don’t think it’s as much of a mapped out career decision as many have speculated on. While commercial I’m sure Shinya Tsukamoto manages to wrap his own footprint around each frame and I can’t wait to see it.
